Saskatchewan teams setting pace at national curling championships in Vernon
The Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships are into day four at the Vernon Curling Club, the final day of the round robin as the 14 men’s and 14 women’s teams battle for spots in the playoff round.
Nancy Martin’s team from Martensville, Sask. was a perfect 4-0 heading into Wednesday’s Draw 9 to lead the women’s standings while Bruce Korte’s squad from Saskatoon, Sask. topped the men’s event at 5-0 with Wayne Flemming’s rink from Halifax, Nova Scotia close behind with four wins and no losses.
The British Columbia teams are in the hunt, with Wes Craig of Duncan at 3-1 and Diane Gushulak of New Westminster at 3-1 on the women’s side.
The playoffs will start Thursday. The top four teams in each pool will advance to the championship round for the event that features the top 50-and-older curlers in Canada.
